Dynamics 365 is shifting from fixed release waves to a continuous roadmap and launching AI-assisted migration support; GitHub Copilot is expanding agents, model orchestration, Jira context, and code-review autonomy; and Windows is progressing new 26H1 Insider builds and safety features. Administrators should prioritize September SQL Server patching, assess Azure SQL Data Sync dependencies ahead of its retirement, and monitor the Windows Server Remote Desktop issue that Microsoft says is mitigated. - Dynamics 365 CRM and ERP: Microsoft has moved Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Dataverse roadmap content to the unified AI at Work roadmap. This replaces the twice-yearly “release wave” planning structure with continuously published, committed capabilities; Microsoft says there will be no September 2026 Release Wave 2 plan
- Dynamics migration: Microsoft is beginning a limited public preview of Dynamics 365 Activate, an AI-powered program aimed initially at helping customers assess Salesforce environments and prepare migrations to Dynamics 365. Microsoft has indicated it intends to expand this approach to additional CRM and ERP migration scenarios.
- CRM market position: Microsoft reports it has been named a Leader in Gartner’s 2026 Magic Quadrant for CRM Sales Platforms for the sixteenth consecutive year. This is Microsoft’s own reporting of Gartner’s assessment, but it reinforces the company’s current sales-CRM positioning as it embeds more agents and Copilot capabilities into business workflows
Developer, cloud, and data
- Visual Studio: The recent Visual Studio guidance highlights diagnosing distributed .NET latency using the Performance Profiler—identifying the responsible process, collecting CPU data, narrowing analysis to the relevant request interval, and adding focused measurements when CPU traces do not explain total elapsed time.
- GitHub Copilot: Copilot’s September 7 weekly release adds Jira integration in the Copilot app, adaptive model orchestration through experimental “Project HydraFusion” in Copilot CLI, and agent automation in VS Code. HydraFusion is designed to route tasks across local, cloud, and compound-model workflows based on performance, cost, and latency.
- GitHub Copilot code review: Copilot code review can now resolve its own comments after a related fix is pushed, create context-aware commit-message suggestions after its recommendations are applied, and use more shell tools—such as builds and tests—behind the Copilot agent firewall. Lite-level reviews now use an ensemble of agents rather than one reviewer
- Copilot enterprise controls: JetBrains users gain enterprise-managed sandbox policies, project-wide chat context, cross-file next-edit navigation, and public-preview integration between Copilot CLI terminal sessions and JetBrains IDE context.
- Azure Portal and Azure SQL: The actionable Azure-side development is the staged retirement of Azure SQL Data Sync. As of September 9, new deployments cannot be created in subscriptions that have never used the service, although existing customers can continue managing sync groups during the retirement period. The service is scheduled to retire on September 30, 2027; organizations should inventory dependent databases and validate replacement architectures
- SQL Server security updates: Microsoft released September updates for SQL Server 2025, SQL Server 2022, SQL Server 2019, and older supported versions. Notable builds include SQL Server 2025 CU8 + GDR, build 17.0.4085.5, and SQL Server 2022 CU26 + GDR, build 16.0.4275.2, both dated September 8.
- SQL tooling: SQL Server Management Studio 22.10.0 was released September 8 and updates its bundled Visual Studio component to version 18.10.0. Microsoft also released ODBC Driver 18.7.1.1, adding float16 vector support, conventional connection-string keywords, Azure SQL Hyperscale named-replica routing improvements, and Windows/Linux/macOS availability.
Windows and Surface
- Windows 11 builds: Microsoft released new September 11 Windows 11 Insider Preview builds across Beta, Experimental, and Release Preview channels, including Windows 11 version 26H1 Release Preview build 28000.3079.
- Windows usability: Release Preview builds for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 add an “Open apps maximized” accessibility setting that automatically maximizes applications when they open.
- Family safety: Windows Age APIs are broadly available to Windows Insiders and are expected to reach all Windows users soon, extending age-appropriate protections and parental-choice mechanisms across Windows experiences.
- Windows Server caution: Microsoft lists a September security-update issue in which Remote Desktop Services may become unstable on some Windows Server 2022 systems with Remote Desktop enabled. The issue is marked mitigated, but IT teams should review the applicable release-health guidance before broadly deploying or troubleshooting RDS-related incidents.
- Surface: No major new Surface hardware announcement was identified in the latest September 12 reporting reviewed. The broader Microsoft hardware conversation is instead focused on Windows’ local-AI direction, including reported Project Zenith developer configurations designed for high-memory systems capable of running large local models.
