Apple didn’t hold an event on October 13, but it refreshed its smart home lineup with the Apple HomeView, HomePod mini 2, and a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.
Siri AI is now the centerpiece of Apple’s software strategy, tying together iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro through iCloud-synced conversations.
Apple is also going through a leadership change and layoffs.
Apple TV and Home
- The $299 HomeView is a new home hub with apps, widgets, and personalized content for up to six people. M
- The $299 Apple TV 4K has microphones for Siri, more storage, an A19 chip, and Wi-Fi 7. The $149 HomePod mini 2 has a faster chip and new colors.
- HomeView will have a selection of Apple apps but no App Store for third-party apps.
AI and iCloud
- Siri AI launched as a beta with iOS 27 on September 14. Users must join a waitlist to get access.
- The Siri app uses iCloud to sync conversation history across devices, so you can start a chat on one and continue on another.
- Code found in iOS 27 and macOS suggests Siri AI is built to work with third-party models such as Claude and ChatGPT.
- Siri AI is not initially available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS, and not in China.
Vision Pro
- visionOS 27 shipped on September 14 with Siri AI support.
- In August, Apple cut about 100 Vision Products Group employees and largely shut down the Vision Pro gaming team. Apple says the headset is not being discontinued.
iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac
- Apple patched a vulnerability (CVE-2026-86950) in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 that may have been exploited by hackers, so update your devices.
- watchOS 27 drops support for Apple Watch models older than Series 9, including Series 8 and the first-generation Ultra.
- An OLED iPad mini is in development, but it hasn’t launched.
- The Mac Studio isn’t expected to be updated before October.
Company and Leadership
- Tim Cook becomes executive chairman and John Ternus becomes CEO effective September 1.
- As of September 29, the new CEO is reportedly weighing layoffs and faster product launches.
Space Technology
I found no confirmed new Apple space announcement this week. Earlier reports said Apple was in talks with SpaceX to bring Starlink direct-to-cell connectivity to iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple currently relies on Globalstar for Emergency SOS. Treat the SpaceX talks as unconfirmed.
